Being a Correspondent: Thoughts, Reflections, Experiences

The Handbook for Aspiring and Current Foreign Correspondents

The Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in the United States (AFPC-USA) is committed to supporting and empowering the next generation of international journalists. In line with this mission, AFPC-USA published in December 2024 a comprehensive and up-to-date handbook for aspiring and current foreign correspondents.

Authored by the Association’s Executive Director, Thanos Dimadis—whose distinguished career as a foreign correspondent spans Brussels, Washington, D.C., New York, and London—this handbook serves as a valuable resource for journalism students across the United States and for anyone interested in pursuing a career in international reporting.

The handbook is distributed every academic semester to U.S.-based schools of journalism. Copies are provided free of charge to schools, individual students, and aspiring or current foreign correspondents on behalf of the Association.

If you represent a school of journalism, or if you are a student or a working or aspiring foreign correspondent and would like to request a complimentary copy of the handbook, please complete the form below.

If you are not a journalist, a student of journalism, or a representative of a journalism school, the book is available for purchase through Barnes & Noble. Please visit the following link to order your copy: Order on Barnes & Noble
